The Role:

As a Junior Surface Designer, you will collaborate closely with aerodynamicists to create high-quality, high-performance surfaces. This role is highly creative and technical, primarily working on motorsports and automotive projects, relying on a strong understanding of surfacing and parametric modelling techniques. Your work will support aerodynamic development and surface geometry creation for CFD, wind tunnel testing, and A-class surfacing releases.

You will:

  • Work across a variety of customer projects, supporting aerodynamic development in motorsport and automotive disciplines.

  • Collaborate with aerodynamicists to understand surface definitions and model construction requirements.

  • Liaise with team members to ensure the smooth implementation of aerodynamic projects.

  • Create high-quality surface geometry for multiple applications.

  • Receive support from experienced surfacers to improve business capabilities and ensure output is fit for purpose and right first time.

  • Ensure standard design practices are followed for surface model releases.

  • Help in developing and maintaining surfacing and modelling best practice documentation.

Key Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience with CAD surfacing, ideally in Formula 1, high-level motorsport, or automotive sectors.

  • Education in Motorsport, Aerodynamics, Engineering, Product, or Industrial Design (degree or apprenticeship).

  • Experience with CATIA 3DX or NX is advantageous.

  • Proficient in CAD with a solid understanding of parametric 3D modelling and surface design.

  • High attention to detail and surface quality.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively in complex technical situations.

  • Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

  • An understanding for aerodynamics and engineering, coupled with creativity in styling and industrial design.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and graphical.

  • Ability to manage workload effectively in a fast-paced environment and autonomously capable of managing own projects / workloads.
